Season 5, Episode 1: Buffy vs. Dracula

Buffy is shaken - and more than a little star-struck - when she comes face to face with the greatest vampire of all time, Dracula. While Buffy starts to become powerless under Dracula's thrall, much to the chagrin of a jealous Riley, and Xander becomes the Dracula's slave. Meanwhile, Giles is secretly contemplating returning to England as he feels Buffy no longer needs his help.
Season 5, Episode 2: Real Me

Sibling rivalry starts to drive Buffy crazy when she's forced to take Dawn with her and Giles to the magic shop, where they find the owner dead from multiple puncture wounds. The evidence points to a new vampire gang. When they learn the leader of the pack is Harmony, nobody takes them seriously until Dawn mistakenly invites Harmony into the house and then gets kidnapped, forcing Buffy to rescue the teen.
Season 5, Episode 3: The Replacement

A demon attacks Buffy with a mystical weapon, but hits Xander instead. The next morning, Xander wakes up and discovers that there is a second Xander, and this other Xander is stealing his life. Meanwhile, Anya is confronted with her own mortality, and Riley realizes that Buffy doesn't return the love he has for her.

Joyce faints while at home, and while the gang is at the hospital, Dawn discovers that Riley's heartbeat is off the charts, but Riley ignores it. When Buffy enlists the Initiative's help, Riley gets angry and runs, and he eventually admits to Buffy that he's afraid they'll make him a normal guy, causing her to lose interest in him. She manages to get him to the Initiative doctor, only to find that Spike has forced the doctor to remove his chip...

A mysterious woman arrives in town looking for "The Key", and Buffy investigates a possible supernatural cause behind her mother's illness. She performs a ritual to see spells, and discovers something is not quite right about Dawn. Meanwhile, the gang helps Giles see through the re-opening of the magic shop, and Giles hires Anya to work for him.

It's Tara's 20th birthday, and her family arrives in town without any prior notice. They've come to take her home, because on the 20th birthday of all women in Tara's family, the demon inside them emerges. When Glory sends some demons to take care of the Slayer, Tara inadvertently helps the demons toward their goal in her attempt to keep her friends from seeing what she believes lies beneath her surface.
Season 5, Episode 7: Fool for Love

When a vampire impales Buffy with her own stake, she seeks out information on the last battles of past Slayers from the only person she knows who witnessed any slayer's death: Spike. He not only begins to detail why his victims lost their battles, but his personal history as a vampire. Meanwhile, Joyce's condition worsens and she spends the night at the hospital.
Season 5, Episode 8: Shadow

Joyce checks into Sunnydale Memorial Hospital for a CAT scan, which reveals a shadow on her brain; it turns out to be a brain tumor. Buffy is thrown by the revelation, and even more so by the fact that there's nothing she can do. Meanwhile, Glory conjures up a giant snake to seek out the Key, and Riley feels unwanted, and goes to dark places to feel needed.

A Queller demon lands in Sunnydale in a fiery meteorite and begins killing all the mentally ill people it can find. Meanwhile, Joyce has been diagnosed with a brain tumor, and while she waits to undergo her operation the tumor is making her act increasingly unusual.
Season 5, Episode 10: Into the Woods

At the hospital, the Scooby Gang awaits news from the doctor about Joyce's surgery and they are all relieved when the surgery is a success. As Dawn spends the night at Xander and Anya's place, Buffy and Riley spend a romantic evening together. But in the middle of the night, Riley sneaks out through the window and Spike follows him, discovering a dark secret Riley has been keeping.

While trying to create a new spell to help Buffy with her slaying, Willow is distracted by an argument with Anya and accidentally releases a troll from a mystical prison. Buffy finally tells her friends about Dawn being the Key and they start acting weird around Dawn, which leads to her seeking answers. During Buffy's birthday party, Dawn sneaks out, and with Spike's help, breaks into The Magic Box. When she finds Giles's journals, she discovers what she really is...
Season 5, Episode 14: Crush

Buffy notices that Dawn is spending a lot of time around Spike and surmises that she has a crush on him, which Dawn shoots down saying that Spike has a crush on Buffy. Meanwhile a vampire has attacked the passengers on a train and Buffy is finding it hard to concentrate on investigating with the thought that Spike is in love with her. When Spike admits he loves her, Buffy rejects him, sending him into the arms of an old lover...
Season 5, Episode 15: I Was Made to Love You

A strange girl arrives in Sunnydale searching everywhere for her boyfriend Warren. She is sweet, pretty, and strong enough to throw Spike through a window when he hits on her. Buffy and the gang easily deduce she's a robot, and decide that they must do something before someone else gets in her way and gets seriously hurt.
Season 5, Episode 16: The Body

Buffy is completely destroyed when she arrives home and finds her mother dead on the couch. The rest of the gang try their best to pull themselves out of their own grief so that they can help Buffy and Dawn to deal with the worst day of their lives.
Season 5, Episode 17: Forever

Refusing to accept that her mother's death is the end, Dawn becomes obsessed with using magic to bring her back, and turns to Spike for help. Buffy receives some much-needed comfort from an old friend who comes to town for the funeral. Meanwhile, Ben accidentally gives Glory a vital piece of information, and Tara tries to convince Dawn that magic can't bring her mother back.
Season 5, Episode 18: Intervention

Buffy and Giles leave for the desert on a vision quest led by the First Slayer. While they are gone, Spike decides to have a little fun with his Buffy robot, but the gang mistakes it for the real Buffy and think that she is sleeping with Spike. Meanwhile, Glory's minions also mistake the robot for the real Buffy, and noticing how it acts around Spike, begin to suspect that he is the Key.

While Buffy tries to control a motherless Dawn and bring their lives back to some sort of normalcy, Tara and Willow get into their first major argument. Meanwhile, Glory thinks she has figured out who the Key is.

Buffy realizes that she can never beat Glory, so she and the Scoobies leave Sunnydale in Spike's RV. Unfortuntely, the Knights of Byzantium are quickly on their tail, deciding that they must kill Dawn before Glory can get to her.

Season 5, Episode 21: The Weight of the World

Despite the gang's best efforts, Glory has succeeded in taking Dawn. This failure after so much effort proves too much for Buffy and she slips into a catatonic state. Willow must use magic to enter her mind and help her work through the trauma before it is too late to save Dawn and the rest of the world from Glory.
Season 5, Episode 22: The Gift

In the 100th episode, another imminent apocalypse is at hand in Sunnydale. Buffy must square off against a God when Glory prepares to use Dawn to break down the walls between the dimensions and unleash all Hell on Earth. Buffy and the gang go to battle, knowing that not all of them will survive.
